NFL Executive Gets Brutally Honest About Raiders WR Davante Adams

The AFC West is arguably the best division in any sport. The Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders are going to be battle-tested throughout the season against each other as every game will be extremely competitive. Arguably the most surprising move out of the division this offseason was the Raiders’ acquisition of Davante Adams from the Green Bay Packers.

Green Bay placed the franchise tag on Adams, but he made it clear that he would not play out the season under the tag.

With the relationship between the two sides beyond repair, a long-term deal was unlikely. So, the Packers traded Adams and his new five-year, $140 million deal to the Raiders in exchange for a 2022 first and second-round pick.

Adams is now the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, and rightfully so. He has been one of the best in the league for an extended period of time, but some people have some worries about him leaving Aaron Rodgers and joining an offense led by Derek Carr.

When talking to NFL Analysis Network, one NFL executive believes there will be a regression in 2022 as Carr isn’t on the same level as Rodgers is.

“Look, Davante (Adams) is a superstar, there’s no doubt about that. But, anyone not expecting regression is going to be disappointed. He’s a great player, but it helps having a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers throwing you the ball. Derek Carr is no Aaron Rodgers.”

There is no denying the chemistry that Adams and Rodgers had was special. Rodgers is one of the best to ever do it, so any time a player leaves an offense led by him, there will likely be a slight downgrade in production.

However, Adams and Carr do have experience working together. When Adams was dominating collegiately at Fresno State, it was Carr who was his quarterback. The two have a great relationship and it will certainly help them when they are back on the field as teammates again in 2022.

Carr may not be Rodgers, but the areas of the field in which he excels at getting the ball to is where Adams does a lot of his damage. The Raiders also have Josh McDaniels calling the shots now as head coach and he is as good as anyone at scheming up plays to get the ball into his best playmakers’ hands.

Sure, there may be some regression, but Davante Adams will remain one of the best receivers in the NFL in 2022 and help elevate a Raiders offense to keep up with the explosive units in the AFC West.
