5. Indianapolis Colts
The Colts have lots of money and no cornerbacks. Well, no shutdown cornerbacks at least. When Sherman hits the market next offseason, Indianapolis can add a veteran playmaker capable of changing their secondary’s identity.
Indianapolis signed Pierre Desir to a three-year, $22.5 million deal last offseason, but the team released him in March. The organization recently signed T.J. Carrie and Xavier Rhodes in free agency. Both veterans were cut by their former teams a few months ago.
The Colts spent a lot of money and time beefing up their defensive line and linebacking corps over the past two years. Now, the franchise needs help in its secondary. That’s where Sherman comes in. He’s an All-Pro with two or three more productive seasons left in his career, and he’s the perfect fit for a team in desperate need of corners.
If not for questions at quarterback and cornerback, the Colts would be Super Bowl contenders. Unfortunately, the team lacks standout players at both positions. If Indy finds reliable starters at those spots, the Colts will win the AFC South.
Signing Sherman also gives Indianapolis time to find a younger cornerback in the draft.
Unlike some of the following teams in this article, the Colts have more than enough money for Sherman and several other free agent additions in 2021.
