2. Security Blanket
All quarterbacks need a security blanket. Often times, it is a tight end such as Jason Witten or Greg Olsen. Over the years, Rodgers has looked for his favorite wide receiver and that is his security blanket. Who can forget how Jordy Nelson dominated in Green Bay from 2011-16? Cooper Kupp is a perfect security blanket at all levels of the field.
In 2019, Kupp was the third most targeted receiver out of the slot. He lined up in the slot 375 times and was targeted 26.4% of the time. Let’s go to the red zone. He was also third being targeted 33.3% of the time in scoring position and led the league in target rate while the quarterback was under pressure (24.2%) and on third/fourth down (30.8%). That is the definition of a security blanket.
Kupp always finds a way to get open. This works in Rodgers’ favor because he is a quarterback that can extend plays with his legs. Not to mention his ability to make any throw on the field and sneak a ball into a tight window. Kupp would fit perfectly into the Packers’ offense.
