Caleb Williams, hailed as one of the premier quarterback prospects in this year’s NFL Draft, doesn’t have a guaranteed spot as the first overall pick, according to many analysts.
On “The Insiders” segment of NFL Network, Ian Rapoport revealed that Williams doesn’t hold the unanimous top spot on every team’s draft board.
“It does not feel like it’s a consensus that Caleb Williams is the No. 1 overall pick. It doesn’t feel like every team is saying, ‘This is definitely my No. 1 guy.’ But a lot of teams [are saying he’s their No. 1 quarterback].”
This Wednesday, Williams is scheduled to confer with several NFL teams, including the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, New York Jets, and Minnesota Vikings.
Despite swirling rumors suggesting Williams’ reluctance to join the Bears, the Heisman Trophy winner dispelled such speculation this week.
“If I get drafted by the Bears, I’ll be excited. If they trade the pick, and I get drafted by someone else, I’m just as excited. Speaking about Chicago, they have a talented team, a talented offense and defense. For anyone to be in that situation, I think they’d be excited.”
Boasting a college career that culminated in impressive statistics – 10,082 passing yards, 966 rushing yards, and 120 total touchdowns – Williams has left a lasting mark on the collegiate football landscape.
Regrettably, Caleb Williams won’t be showcasing his throwing prowess at this year’s NFL Combine. Scouts will have to wait until his pro day to witness his arm talent firsthand.
