The Dallas Cowboys have arguably the biggest fanbase in the NFL, not to mention the most passionate fan base. However, there is a fine line between being passionate and being annoying.
That fan base has been accused by fans of some other teams of being just that — annoying. It doesn’t help that unlike fans of most other teams, Cowboys supporters are just about everywhere and not just in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. They can be found in the urban jungle of New York City, on the beaches of California and throughout small towns in the Upper Midwest.
Former star wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson spent two seasons in the twilight of his career with the Cowboys. Still, he had some harsh words for the fans of that team on Wednesday’s episode of Fox Sports 1’s “Undisputed.”
“I’m not sick about the Cowboys. What I’m sick of is you, the rest of the fan base and Michael Irvin,” Johnson told Skip Bayless.
“Ya’ll [Cowboy fans] just drive people insane for no apparent reason! You haven’t won in 28 years!”
NFL News & Rumors: Dallas Cowboys Updates
The Cowboys are coming off a controversial 20-19 win on Saturday over the Detroit Lions. Like the Philadelphia Eagles, they hold an 11-5 record and are competing for a first-place finish in the NFC East.
They can claim the division title by winning this weekend against the Washington Commanders. If they do so, they would have the No. 2 seed in the NFC and home field advantage over everyone other than the San Francisco 49ers, who have already clinched the top seed.
Fans of the team have had to endure a rollercoaster ride all season long. Dallas has looked dominant and perhaps even unstoppable for extended stretches, but it has also had some rough losses. It got dismantled in Week 5 by the 49ers and in Week 15 by the surging Buffalo Bills, which has brought up the nagging question of whether it can win a big game in order to get over the hump.
While the Cowboys remain undefeated at home, they’re just 3-5 on the road, which isn’t exactly a recipe for winning the Super Bowl. In addition, quarterback Dak Prescott, who received his third Pro Bowl selection on Wednesday, has a history of underperforming in big games.
Dallas hasn’t won the Vince Lombardi Trophy since the 1995 season, hence the 28 years Johnson referenced in his remark about its fans.
