Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has had difficulty staying on the field this NFL season, as he suffered a concussion in Week 2 and was knocked out of the Colts’ win over the Tennessee Titans this past weekend due to an AC sprain.
Initially, Richardson was expected to be out a couple of weeks, but now, it’s looking like there is a chance he won’t be back this season at all.
Speaking with the media on Wednesday, Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that there is no timetable on Richardson’s return and that whether or not he will be back this year is up to the doctors, according to Jake Arthur of Colts Fan Nation. Steichen added that Richardson is still being evaluated.
NFL NEWS & RUMORS: Anthony Richardson & Indianapolis Colts Updates
In three starts this season, Richardson has thrown for 577 yards, three touchdowns and an interception while completing 59.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 87.3. In addition, he has carried the ball 25 times for 136 yards and four scores.
The 21-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Florida, was selected by Indianapolis with the fourth overall pick of the NFL Draft back in the spring.
If Richardson indeed ends up being sidelined for an extended period of time, the Colts can take solace in the fact that Gardner Minshew may very well be the best backup quarterback in the league.
