New York Jets: Wide Receiver

The Jets have weaknesses and question marks all over the field. Sam Darnold is entering his third season as an unproven quarterback. Head coach Adam Gase is one of the worst coaches in the NFL and is not fond of Le’Veon Bell. New York just sent their best player in Jamal Adams to the Seattle Seahawks. There is a lot of noise around the Jets as usual.

Heading into 2020, the Jets are still in need of help at wide receiver. For the last few years, this answer would have been the offensive line but general manager Joe Douglas Has made the line a priority. The Jets added Greg Van Roten and George Fant in free agency. New York also used their first round pick on Mekhi Becton. This leaves the receiving corps as the biggest weakness.

This is nothing new. The Jets have not had a big time, playmaking receiver since the duo of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. Jamison Crowder is a productive slot receiver and Denzel Mims should show promise as a rookie. Other than that, the Jets will roll with Breshad Perriman and Josh Doctson. That’s poor. The pass catchers are going to be a huge issue. Fans will try to sell you on Chris Herndon, but he needs to prove his worth.

The Jets took strides in getting their young quarterback an offensive line, but adding Mims and Perriman does not improve the skill positions by enough. This is going to be another unimpressive year for the Jets and maybe it will make them realize that they need to add a No. 1 receiver and soon.
