Jacksonville Jaguars — Pass Catcher

DJ Chark might very well be a sneaky good WR1 for the Jacksonville Jaguars, someone they can rely on for the next seven or eight years? The rest of the pass-catching group, from receiver to tight end, not so much.

Neither Dede Westbrook nor Chris Conley has necessarily asserted themself as a strong second option, or even a strong starting option in the league. Westbrook has flashed his potential a few times but hasn’t progressed past more than a preseason star without a 750-yard season to his name. Conley is a similar story, as a player who has been in the NFL for five years but has never had more than 47 receptions in a game.

The Jaguars did bring in reinforcements to help with their receiving woes, signing veteran tight end Tyler Eifert and drafting wide receiver Laviska Shenault in the second round, but both players come with a fair share of concerns.

For Eifert, the glaring red flag comes from his injury history. The former Bengals Pro Bowler hasn’t started more than four games since the 2015 season, and hasn’t had more than 500 yards receiving since that year as well. For Shenault, the concern comes from inexperience. The Colorado Buffaloes rookie will be coming straight from the college level, and didn’t especially impress in his final season with the Buffaloes either.

DJ Chark might have another good season in Jacksonville, but his presence alone isn’t enough to elevate the group.
