Houston Texans — Secondary
The Houston Texans boasted one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL in 2019, and they didn’t do much in the offseason to help patch up that obvious hole.
In fact, it could be argued that the Texans’ secondary, a group that already gave up the fourth-most passing yards and the fifth-most passing touchdowns the year before, actually got worse than where they were a year ago.
Jonathan Joseph wasn’t exactly a shutdown cornerback for the Texans last season, and while he might not be desperately missed by the Houston fanbase in 2020, replacing him long term with Gareon Conley might be more of a lateral move, with Conley failing to provide much help overall to a struggling secondary.
As for the rest of the group, players like Eric Murray to Vernon Hargreaves who have ranged from uninspired to ‘complete liability in coverage,’ might be forced into important roles as depth players to a defensive secondary without many stars.
