NFL: One trade each team in the AFC East should pursue before the season

Trade Package: Miami Dolphins trade Davon Godchaux to Jacksonville Jaguars for Andrew Norwell.

The Dolphins are in need of a lot of help on the offensive line. While Norwell never lived up to his massive contract, he is a much better option than what Miami has to work with. Tua Tagovailoa is an injury-prone quarterback, and if he is the future of the Dolphins franchise Miami will need to invest a lot upfront.

The Jaguars, on the other hand, are coming off an incredibly poor season stopping the run. What did they do? Trade their best run stopper to Baltimore for a late-round pick. Jacksonville may want to get a solid young interior defender, and Godchaux could be a perfect fit for their defense.

Losing Godchaux would mean rookie Raekwon Davis must step up at nose. However, playing more 4-3 may be the answer for Miami defensively. They already run multiple fronts, and both Christian Wilkins and Raekwon Davis better fit in a 4-3 defense anyway. Edge rushers Emmanuel Ogbah and Shaq Lawson are better suited for a 4-3 as well. Moving Godchaux would be a smart decision for Miami which may have a logjam of interior lineman if that were the case.

While Norwell is no longer a top their guard, he is only two years removed from his All-Pro season. He is at his best when zone blocking and is a quality pass blocker. Jacksonville runs more a power scheme and it’s evident Norwell struggles in such a situation. Miami runs a lot more zone, so he would be a better fit.

It would not be a very sexy trade, however, it would be a smart trade for both teams. It would be another move that positions the Dolphins as a future AFC East contender while better protecting their franchise-quarterback in the meantime as he develops.
