Trade Package: New York Jets trade a 2021 second-round pick and a 2022 fifth-round selection to Jacksonville Jaguars for Yannick Ngakoue.

At this point, it is clear that Yannick Ngakoue will not return to Jacksonville. He has been very vocal in his displeasure with the Jaguars’ front office and their mishandling of his contract extension. So vocal, in fact, that he went after Jaguars executive vice president of football administration and technology (and son of owner Shad Khan) on Twitter this offseason.

The situation in Jacksonville is not getting any better. However, Khan is correct, the Twitter outbursts are just driving Ngakoue’s stock lower. A team that may want to capitalize on this is the New York Jets.

While the Jets are not ready to make a playoff push yet, adding a quality veteran pass-rusher will help the future of this team tremendously. Meanwhile, the Jaguars add extra draft capital and end the drama that has been following them for the entire offseason.

Ngakoue is a very solid NFL talent. He is a pass-rush specialist who can create turnovers at a very high rate. The Jaguars did not feel as though he was worth the asking price. While the situation was poorly handled on both sides, there is a possibility all parties come away happy.

Ngakoue finds a young team whose defense is growing and the Jaguars get more draft picks to help aid their rebuilding process. As for the Jets, they get a talented young edge rusher who can create turnovers and serve as a building block for this defenses future. Everyone wins in this scenario, except for the rest of the AFC East, of course.
