NFL: One trade each team in the AFC East should pursue before the season

Trade Package: Buffalo Bills trade Jerry Hughes and a fourth-round selection to the Cleveland Browns for Kareem Hunt.

The Buffalo Bills may be in need of a running back. Currently, the starting back is Devin Singletary, who has talent but is very undersized. Trading for Kareem Hunt makes a lot of sense for both the Cleveland Browns and the Bills.

Hunt is a perfect fit for the Bills’ offense. He is powerful, quick, and can catch the ball out of the backfield. The rotation of Hunt, Singletary, and rookie Zack Moss would be a quality trio that would help take needed pressure off Josh Allen, who is looking to have a breakout year.

Jerry Hughes fits the Browns’ 4-3 scheme and could play in rotation for Myles Garrett doing a lot of what Olivier Vernon already does. The Browns’ offense already has too many mouths to feed. Trading Hunt for a quality veteran and a mid-round pick would be a huge pickup for them.

While losing Hughes will be a major loss, Buffalo took promising rookie AJ Epenesa in the 2nd round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He would get more reps and move up as the starter on defense. If Buffalo plays as well as they hope, that fourth-round pick they’d give up would be closer to an early fifth-rounder than a late third-rounder.

It is a bit of a risk, but one that should pay off big for both teams. For the Bills especially, loading up on talent ahead of a season that could end in an AFC East title is something that should be considered wherever it can occur.
