The New York Jets have turned themselves into the laughingstock of the NFL. How they have handled the quarterback situation this season after Aaron Rodgers’ injury in Week 1 has been amongst the most embarrassing things in the league this season.
The team didn’t seem to have a contingency plan in place coming into the season, not even fathoming that an injury to Rodgers could occur. The Jets’ worst nightmare quickly became a reality when he suffered what could be a season-ending injury after four plays.
Zach Wilson was thrust back into the starting quarterback role and the results were as poor as everyone outside of the Jets expected. But, the team did very little to bring in an established or competent backup option, instead signing another Rodgers and Nathaniel Hackett favorite in Tim Boyle and eventually bringing in Trevor Siemian.

To the surprise of no one, both of those players struggled as well when their number was called. Head coach Robert Saleh benched Wilson ahead of their Week 12 game against the Miami Dolphins in favor of Boyle, who wasn’t very good. Things got worse in Week 13 against the Atlanta Falcons and he was benched for Siemian, who also struggled.
With nowhere to turn, the Jets are looking to go back to Wilson, but he is reportedly hesitant to take the job. That led to Rodgers sharing some scathing comments, standing up for Wilson. He questioned the reports about Wilson not wanting to play and ripped into whoever the anonymous source was who shared the information from the Jets.
Now, another reporter has responded to Rodgers’s comments with some of their own, providing more insight into the situation. “His reluctance to playing has everything to do with the potential of him getting hurt as well as really the way the Jets have conducted business with him. All the people that we’ve been talking to aren’t lying to us. And Rodgers made that pretty clear that he’s just frustrated with the information getting out,” the reporter said.

This has been a bizarre week for the Jets, who are 4-8 with their season all but over at this point. But, Diana Russini, who along with Zack Rosenblatt shared the initial report, doubled down earlier this week, sticking to her sources.
At this point, the Jets seem more like a circus than a football team as things have gone off the rails. The losing and ineptitude offensively hasn’t helped, and the recent news is just another embarrassing layer to what has been a very disappointing season.
