NFL Scout Dishes Solution For Seahawks At QB Position

The Seattle Seahawks changed the trajectory of the franchise this offseason. After rumors popped up in recent years about the team parting ways with quarterback Russell Wilson, it came to fruition this offseason.

The Seahawks completed a blockbuster deal with the Denver Broncos, sending Wilson and a 2022 fourth-round pick there in exchange for Drew Lock, Shelby Harris, Noah Fant, 2022 first-round pick, 2022 second-round pick, 2022 fifth-round pick, a 2023 first-round pick and a 2023 second-round pick.

Given the fact that Seattle is only one season removed from winning 12 games, this is a roster that is closer to contending than people think. All of the extra draft capital that they acquired will help them rebuild this roster for a quick turnaround should they hit on the prospects added.

There are some pieces in place which will enable the Seahawks to remain competitive this season. However, they do have some serious question marks at the quarterback position that needs to be addressed.

The team likely cannot go into the season with Lock as their starter, as he hasn’t proven he can handle such a role. When talking to NFL Analysis Network, one NFL scout believes the team would be smart to bring in Jameis Winston to be their new starting quarterback.

“Moving on from Russell Wilson is going to be difficult to recover fully from immediately, but there is one quick fix that keeps them in contention. That move would be signing Jameis Winston. Winston would be a perfect fit in Seattle and has the arm to utilize DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett effectively.”

Winston may not be Wilson, but he is certainly closer to being able to provide that level of production than Lock is. With two great weapons already in place, bringing in a more established quarterback would make a lot of sense for the Seahawks.

Winston was having a strong season with the New Orleans Saints in 2021 before blowing out his knee in a Week 8 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They were 5-2 in his starts, as Winston had 14 passing touchdowns and only three interceptions, making huge strides with his ball security and decision making.

Accomplishing numbers like that without Michael Thomas in the lineup is impressive. He may be on the shelf to start the season, but Winston has been making great progress in his rehab and could provide excellent value for a team that takes a shot on him in free agency.

Still only 28-years old, Winston should still have plenty of good football ahead of him.
