NFL: Will Amari Cooper or Davante Adams have a better 2020 season?

Packers, Davante Adams

The Case For Davante Adams

The world expected the Green Bay Packers to draft a wide receiver in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Or in the second round. Or, any round, really. But with nine total picks, six of which were dedicated to offensive players, the Packers brought in a grand total of zero new wide receivers.

This, on its own, might be a disaster for the Green Bay offense– one that now has to rely on Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling as starting pass-catchers. But it should be good news for Davante Adams, or at least Adams’ stat sheet.

Despite missing four games last season, Adams still managed to hit 127 targets in the Packers’ offense, the second-most of his career.

If he were to play at a full 16-game schedule at that pace, not only would he have a broke career-high in targets, but he would have broke 100 receptions and 1,300-yards to make him the only receiver not named Michael Thomas to hit those marks. With all things essentially equal on offense, from a similar cast of receivers to another year of Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, the stage might be set for another stellar year from Davante Adams.
