The Case for Davante Adams

At one point, fans and analysts had Davante Adams written off the packers during and after the 2015 season. Adams sure quieted the doubters with a vengeance in the next year of 2016. He had his breakthrough year that really cemented his status of WR1 in Green Bay. In terms of stats in 2016, Adams had 75 catches, 997 yards, 12 touchdowns, and a whopping yards per reception of 13.3.

He has elevated and fine-tuned his play so much over the last 4 years that he is on a list all by himself. Since 2016 only one wide receiver of these stats in the NFL: 4,000 yards and 40 touchdowns. The List: Davante Adams

That means he is averaging 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns since 2016. He has highlights constantly showing his knack for scoring those 40 touchdowns. Just like that the legend of Davante Adams was born.

In 2019, Adams missed 4 games due to a turf toe injury that he even played with some discomfort after coming back. In 12 games his stats totaled up to:
83 Catches, 997 Yards, and 5 touchdowns. Adams finally looked healthy again in the divisional playoff game versus Seattle. It wasn’t just a show, he was the show! Seattle’s Defense could have brought in the national guard and still wouldnt have been able to stop Adams.

This season could be a magical one for Adams in the second year system of head coach Matt Lafleur. In this system you saw Adams motion once or even twice on the same play for an audible call. He was called in motion for reverses and even wheel routes. He was moved outside, inside the slot, or even off tackle and Lafleur found ways to use Adams full ability.

Don’t forget he has his first ballot hall of fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to get him the ball. Adams and Rodgers have this uncanny connection where all it takes is an eye wink, a finger air swirl, and they know exactly which play to run.

Adams first and second step off the line of scrimmage on a play is a defenders worst nightmare. If you pair his route ability, Lafleur’s misdirection system, having Aaron Rodgers, and Adams knack for finding the end zone you have a chance at putting together a hell of season for Davante Adams. Maybe even having one better than Julio Jones?
