The Verdict: Julio Jones
Davante Adams has the traits and skills of a premier wide receiver but putting him over Julio Jones would be a huge no-no. Adams has built and fine tuned his route arsenal because he doesn’t have the massive size. Unlike Julio Jones who is the prototypical wide receiver of size, speed, and a quarterback’s dreams to be able to go up and catch any pass.
Jones has one thing going against him and its his lack of finding the end-zone. That was my one knock on him and ironically enough Adams strong suit was finding the end-zone but lacking the yards to match it even though he has built quite the resume for himself.
Jones took the edge in constantly producing around the same stats in catches and yards since coming in the league 2011. Another advantage for Jones is Dirk Koetter’s fifth year (two different spans) as the same offensive coordinator and the familiarity has become muscle memory for Jones. Adams is only in his second year of Lafleurs system, but looks to build on that from an impressive first season together.
As a green bay packer fan, this hurt to write but I will keep the tears at bay.
All in all, Julio Jones has the productivity, the offensive familiarity, the size and speed to overtake Davante Adams for a better 2020 season.
