Nick Chubb May Have Played His Final Game With Browns

The Cleveland Browns will be faced with some tough decisions in the coming weeks, like what to do with running back Nick Chubb.

The Browns have a rather tenuous salary cap situation, as they are $20.6 million over the cap heading into free agency (per Spotrac). As a result, Cleveland may have to cut some players.

One of those players could be Chubb.

Chubb suffered a devastating knee injury back in Week 2, tearing multiple ligaments and putting his future with the Browns—and in the NFL in general—in jeopardy.

Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti lists Chubb as one of the top players who will be on the roster bubble this offseason, noting that Cleveland can save $11.8 million by releasing him.

Ginnitti also mentions that the Browns could always bring Chubb back on a cheaper deal.

Given the rather negative prognosis on Chubb’s future in football, it would not be the least bit surprising of the Browns opted to cut ties with him.

Chubb, who played his collegiate football at the University of Georgia, was selected by Cleveland in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

After a strong rookie campaign in which he rushed for 996 yards and eight touchdowns, Chubb proceeded to make four straight trips to the Pro Bowl between 2019 and 2022, with his best year coming in the latter season when he racked up 1,525 yards and 12 scores while averaging a robust five yards per carry.

There is obviously no question about Chubb’s production in the past, but whether or not he can maintain that level of performance moving forward is certainly in doubt.

The Browns finished 16th in the NFL in rushing without Nick Chubb in 2023, so they will definitely need to address the running back position.

Cleveland went 11-6 and lost to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs this past year.
