The Green Bay Packers are heading into the 2021 NFL Draft with quite a few needs to address if they want to get back to the NFC Championship Game. One of their main needs is finding some help at the cornerback position. With the No. 29 overall pick in the draft, they could be taking a look at Virginia Tech star corner Caleb Farley.
Farley would be a big-time addition for the Packers across from star cornerback Jaire Alexander. He would help give the franchise an option behind Kevin King, who re-signed with the team on a one-year deal this offseason. King was torched last season in the NFC Championship Game by Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
One NFL scout talked about the Packers’ draft plans and he thinks they are hoping that Farley falls to them so they can pick him up.
“I’ve heard that Green Bay really wants Caleb Farley out of Virginia Tech. They love him and the potential that he has to be a long-term lockdown duo with (Jaire) Alexander. If Farley happens to fall that far, the Packers will take him, and I think there’s also a chance that they could trade up for him.”
Brian Gutekunst, the Packers’ general manager, has been very aggressive in the NFL Draft during his time with the team. He has traded up, traded down, and stood pat with his picks. If he likes Farley, there is no question that he would pull the trigger on a trade up for him.
During his two-year career with the Hokies, Farley racked up 56 total tackles to go along with a sack, six interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 19 defended passes. He was a monster for Virginia Tech. Farley has all of the tools to be something special in the NFl and the Packers would be wise to take him if they have the chance.
Plenty of fans are hoping to see the Packers give Aaron Rodgers another weapon in the first-round. Names like Rondale Moore, Kadarius Toney, and Rashod Bateman have all been talked about as targets. However, if they can get a talent like Caleb Farley, they cannot afford to pass him up.
Expect to see the Packers put together another solid NFL Draft. Gutekunst has done a great job so far and he will do so again. If he comes away from the draft with Farley, the franchise will have to feel very good about things.
