The Philadelphia Eagles made a bold move during the 2022 NFL Draft when they acquired wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Tennessee Titans. Brown was seeking a long-term deal that Tennessee was unwilling to pay, but the Eagles were more than willing to meet his demands.
In addition to the first and third-round picks that the Eagles sent to the Titans, they also agreed to a four-year, $100 million deal with Brown. It is an investment that the franchise is ecstatic about as Brown was excellent in his first season in the City of Brotherly Love.
The Ole Miss product set career highs across the board, catching 88 passes for 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was everything the Eagles could have hoped for and more as he helped elevate this offense around Jalen Hurts to new heights as they were NFC Champions.
That performance helped Brown land near the top of multiple player ranking lists this offseason. Over at PFF, he landed at No. 7 in the wide receiver power rankings and No. 25 overall in the PFF50.
That seems to be a fair ranking as Brown came in at No. 7 in the positional power rankings compiled by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler as well. Fowler polled executives, coaches and scouts from around the league and Brown finished seventh among wide receivers, receiving votes as high as the No. 2 spot.
It is a lofty ranking but one that Brown has earned after his first season with the Eagles. He helped change the trajectory of the franchise and combined with DeVonta Smith, makes one of the most dynamic pass-catching duos in the league.
Heading into the 2023 season, expectations are high once again for the Eagles and their star receiver. Can Brown put on a repeat performance? We will have to wait and see what happens, but betting against the Eagles would seem to be a losing proposition.
