Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been dealing with a left knee issue for several weeks now, and while it didn’t stop him from having his best performance of the season in his team’s Week 8 win over the Washington Commanders, it has clearly made him hesitant to scramble.

Hurts has been very vague whenever he has been asked about the severity of his knee injury, and during a press conference on Wednesday, the signal-caller continued to avoid discussing it.

To be fair to Hurts, he has previously said that he does not want to discuss the knee issue, and it’s hard to blame him for several reasons.

First of all, if Hurts provides any explanation on his injured left knee, it could make him a target for defenders. Obviously, opposing defenses are already well aware that Hurts is not 100 percent, but any further details could make defensive players more apt to go after the knee.

Second, Hurts clearly wants to avoid making excuses. Sometimes when an athlete extrapolates on an injury, fans and media pundits will automatically assume that he is trying to excuse his performance and blame it on injury. Hurts is absolutely not the type of guy to do something like that, so he almost certainly wants to evade the label at all costs.

This past Sunday, Jalen Hurts went 29-for-38 with 319 yards and four touchdowns in what was easily his best passing output of 2023. However, he ran the ball just four times for six yards and lost a fumble for the second straight week, indicating that his legs are not quite right.

On the season overall, the 25-year-old has totaled 2,140 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 68.4 percent of his throws and posting a passer rating of 94.3.

The Eagles have the NFL’s best record at 7-1 and will host the Dallas Cowboys in an NFC East showdown this weekend.
