The Philadelphia Eagles may be 5-0, but it seems pretty clear that they could use some roster upgrades ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.
We know the Eagles have a need in their defensive backfield, particularly at safety. They could also use a cornerback after Avonte Maddox’s season-ending pectoral injury.
However, Philadelphia could also use some assistance in its receiving corps.
Beyond A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, the Eagles don’t exactly have much receiving depth. Quarterback Jalen Hurts could certainly use a dependable No. 3 wide receiver, and Philly simply does not possess that luxury at this moment.
But the Birds have some time to remedy that issue.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox feels that the Eagles should pursue Las Vegas Raiders wide out Hunter Renfrow and suggests that they trade disgruntled pass rusher Derek Barnett to the Raiders in exchange for him.
This is a trade that would fulfill needs on both sides.
Philadelphia would finally add a legitimate third receiver, and Las Vegas would land the pass rusher it has been searching for since releasing Chandler Jones.
Renfrow has largely been a forgotten man in the Raiders’ offense, logging just six catches for 59 yards thus far this season. However, just two years ago, Renfrow was a Pro Bowler after hauling in 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns.
While the 27-year-old may not be the same prolific receiver from 2021, he is still better than anything else the Eagles’ roster currently has to offer behind Brown and Smith and would provide Hurts with a reliable target on short and intermediate routes.
Renfrow is also under contract through next season, so it’s not like Philadelphia would have to worry about the Clemson product walking in the spring.
It may not be a flashy deal, but it would be a pretty fair one for all parties involved.
