On paper, things look great for the Philadelphia Eagles right now. They are 4-0, they are in sole possession of first place in the NFC East and they are the defending conference champions.
But if you’ve watched the Eagles over the first several weeks of the season, you would know that something doesn’t seem quite right with the team.
Philadelphia has had to eke out some wins over some clearly inferior opponents, most recently topping the Washington Commanders in overtime this past Sunday.
While Philly remains one of the NFL’s best teams, it probably could use some roster tweaks ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.
One area where the Eagles could certainly stand to improve is their secondary, and there could be a terrific safety available between now and the end of the month: Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker.
Baker is currently on the injured reserve list due to a hamstring injury, but he is expected back later this season. The Cardinals are just 1-3 and are clearly not contenders, so it may behoove them to move Baker and recoup some value for him to help facilitate a rebuild in the offseason.
Ryan Fowler of Bleacher Report suggests that Philadelphia could trade a defensive lineman Marlon Tuipulotu, a 2024 second-round draft pick and a 2025 third-rounder in exchange for Baker. This would provide Arizona with a couple of good draft picks plus a young player in Tuipulotu to add along its front seven. Meanwhile, Philly would bring in one of the game’s best defensive backs who still has another year left on his deal after this season.
Budda Baker is now in his seventh NFL campaign, all of them coming with the Cardinals. He mas made five trips to the Pro Bowl while earning a pair of First-Team All-Pro selections.
Last season, the 27-year-old registered 111 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and seven passes defended.
