Steelers Favorites To Land Russell Wilson This Offseason

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in need of a quarterback, and Russell Wilson could be the answer.

Wilson is expected to be released by the Denver Broncos this offseason, and DraftKings lists the Steelers as the favorites to land him, putting their odds at -250 (per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk).

This does not come as much of a surprise.

Pittsburgh currently employs Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph under center, and there is apparently some internal division in terms of who the team plans to start at the position in 2024.

Pickett appears to be the favorite, but it’s hard to downplay how well Rudolph played down the stretch this past season after replacing Pickett, who was sidelined due to an ankle injury. Pickett was supposed to come back at the end of the season, but the Steelers opted to stick with Rudolph.

Of course, neither signal-caller exactly lit the world on fire this past year, and Pittsburgh does not seem to have a ton of confidence in either player moving forward.

That’s why bringing in Wilson certainly makes sense.

The Steelers went 10-7 and made the playoffs in 2023, so it’s not like they are a bad team. Add a quarterback like Wilson into the mix, and suddenly, they may become legitimate contenders.

Wilson threw for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 66.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 98 this past season. He was benched for the final two games of the year, but only because he declined to defer his $37 million injury guarantee.

The Broncos are all but guaranteed to move on from Russell Wilson in the coming weeks, and if and when that occurs, the Steelers may be at the front of the line to acquire him.
