The Pittsburgh Steelers have several needs going into the offseason, but one of their most glaring holes is at the cornerback position.

Well, Pro Football Focus has mentioned the Steelers as one of the four most likely destinations for Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed this spring. The incumbent Chiefs, the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles represent the other three clubs on the list.

Sneed played in 16 games during the regular season, registering 78 tackles, a couple of interceptions, a fumble recovery and 14 passes defended while establishing himself as one of the better corners in football.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Louisiana Tech, was selected by Kansas City in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Injuries limited Sneed to just nine games during his rookie campaign, but the following year, Sneed flashed massive potential, appearing in 15 contests and finishing with 76 tackles, a sack, a pair of picks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and eight passes defended.

Then, last year, Sneed racked up 108 tackles, 3.5 sacks, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 11 passes defended.

Sneed will be one of the top defensive players available on the open market this March, so whoever ends up snaring him will certainly be acquiring a prize.

The problem for Pittsburgh is that its salary cap situation may prevent it from making a serious play for Sneed.

Currently, the Steelers are just about $7 million over the cap, meaning they will have to shed some money and get creative in order to open up enough space to sign significant free agents.

But Pittsburgh really doesn’t have much of a choice. It’s clear that the Steelers need to add pieces in order to seriously contend, so they will be forced to make some tough decisions this offseason.
