The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering the NFL Draft with quite a few needs, but Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus thinks their eyes should be on one player in particular.
University of Georgia tight end Brock Bowers.
The Steelers own the 20th overall pick in the first round, so, chances are, Bowers won’t be available if Pittsburgh stays at that spot. But during a recent appearance on 93.7 The Fan, Palazzolo said that the Steelers should trade up if Bowers falls to No. 15 or lower.
“You make it work with Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington. You just make it work,” Palazzolo said. “And I think the tight end name and label is similar to what Buffalo did with Dalton Kincaid. They said, ‘Hey he’s our slot receiver.’ They fed him the ball. Bowers is a better prospect than Kincaid, and he is an absolute weapon and playmaker. I would sprint to the podium to make that move anywhere 15 or later in this draft.”
Pittsburgh isn’t in dire need of a tight end, as Freiermuth is solid, and the club took Washington in the third round of the draft last year.
However, Bowers is considered a generational prospect by some, so if he is somehow available in the middle of the first round, it might be wise for the Steelers to make a move for him.
Bowers is coming off of a terrific 2023 campaign in which he caught 56 passes for 714 yards and six touchdowns.
The 21-year-old arrived at Georgia in 2021 and immediately made a massive impact, snaring 56 balls for 882 yards and 13 scores. He then followed that up by hauling in 63 receptions for 942 yards while reaching the end zone seven times during his sophomore season.
Pittsburgh is much more in need of another wide receiver behind George Pickens, but weapons are weapons, and Bowers happens to be one of the best ones in this draft class, regardless of the fact that he is a tight end.
