With Kenny Pickett struggling a bit in his second season, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin recently said what he wants to see from his quarterback.

It has not been a smooth start to the season for Kenny Pickett and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Like most years, the Steelers have a very strong defense, but they were hoping that their offense would close the gap between the two units this season. Unfortunately, that has yet to happen.

Though four games, the Steelers stand with a 2-2 record, but things don’t feel all that good for the franchise. In Week 4, the Steelers were embarrassed by the Houston Texans by a score of 30-6.

In the battle of young quarterbacks, C.J. Stroud easily outdueled Kenny Pickett in the Texans’ win. Against the Texans, Pickett totaled just 114 passing yards to go along with an interception in a very lackluster game.

Recently, head coach Mike Tomlin spoke to the media about what he wants to see from Pickett.

“I want to see him make fluid decisions, particularly in the early stages of games,” Tomlin said. “I think as plays get extended, particularly early in games, it increases the potential for offensive negativity and defensive positivity.”

Pickett had a great college career at Pittsburgh, but we haven’t seen that translate to the NFL yet. While there were some glimpses at times last year, he needs to find the consistency.

Things will not be getting easier for the Steelers in Week 5, as they will be playing the Baltimore Ravens. These games are always physical and defensive battles. However, Pickett can build some momentum here in a big divisional matchup.

If Pickett listens to his coaching staff, he will take the easy ones and make quick decisions against the Ravens. A key to the game will be to not make mistakes, which has been a problem for Pickett this season.
