The New England Patriots are just 2-5 thus far this season, representing their worst start under Bill Belichick since his first year at the helm in 2000.
As a result, the Patriots may look to move some pieces between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, and tight end Mike Gesicki seems like a prime candidate to be dealt.
Could the Pittsburgh Steelers jump in and try to make something happen? Enzo Flojo of ClutchPoints pitches the idea.
The Steelers have gotten off to a surprising 4-2 start and are coming off of a huge win over the Los Angeles Rams this past Sunday.
However, it is pretty clear that Pittsburgh’s offense could use some assistance.
The Steelers do have a couple of tight ends in Pat Freiermuth and rookie Darnell Washington, but Freiermuth is currently sidelined due to a hamstring injury, and Washington has logged just one catch in limited use thus far.
Gesicki has logged 17 catches for 149 yards and a touchdown in his debut season in New England. He is on a one-year deal with the club, so the Pats may want to recoup some value for him now before he potentially walks via free agency.
Pittsburgh could send a 2024 third-round draft pick to the Pats for Gesicki, which would be a pretty nice return for the Patriots.
A couple of years ago, Gesicki was a very reliable target for the Miami Dolphins. He posted over 700 yards in back-to-back campaigns in 2020 and 2021 before taking a step back with 362 yards a year ago.
Perhaps Mike Gesicki can experience a resurgence with the Steelers.
Pittsburgh’s offense ranks just 30th in the NFL and its aerial attack is 27th, so the team could absolutely use as many extra weapons as possible in its playoff push.
The Steelers will look to build on their impressive win over the Ravens when they head on the road to battle the Los Angeles Rams next weekend.
