One of the goals of the Cleveland Browns this offseason was to upgrade the weapons around quarterback Deshaun Watson. They wanted to revamp the wide receiver depth chart and general manager Andrew Berry certainly achieved that goal.
The Browns acquired Elijah Moore from the New York Jets, along with a third-round pick, in exchange for a second-round pick. In free agency, speedster Marquise Goodwin was signed, bringing another dimension to the offense. But, the most impactful addition could come via the 2023 NFL Draft.
With the selection received from the Jets, the Browns picked Tennessee wide receiver Cedric Tillman. Thus far this offseason, he has been making waves in Cleveland with his performance during practice.
In the Hall of Fame game preseason opener, Tillman led the Browns with two receptions for 35 yards in a win over the Jets. It was yet another standout performance for him, as he continues to push for a spot in the lineup come the regular season.
The former Volunteer also received some major praise from all-time great wide receiver and Hall of Famer, Randy Moss. Moss believes that Tillman is the best young receiver to enter the NFL in the last 15 years, adding that it isn’t even close. Every owner that passed on selecting him in the draft is going to be “pissed” in the opinion of Moss once they see him on the field.
Tillman’s stock coming into the draft took a hit during the 2022 season. He appeared in only six games as he suffered a high ankle sprain in the third game of the season. Surgery would eventually be done to try and speed up the healing process.
While it was certainly an unfortunate turn of events, the Browns have to be happy with how things turned out. He fell right into their lap in the third round and in the early going looks like a keeper. They are certainly hopeful all of the signs that he has been showing this offseason translate to the field during the regular season.
