Ranking The Green Bay Packers’ 5 Best Offensive Players All-Time

Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Packers
NFL Analysis Network

Over the years, the Green Bay Packers have been one of the top winning teams in NFL history and have boasted many superstar players. Most recently, both Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre rank among the top quarterbacks of all-time. However, there are plenty of players from the past as well that don’t receive enough recognition in today’s era.

Vince Lombardi is among the conversation for top head coaches of all-time as well. A tradition of winning has been all that the Packers have known. They are also known for having one of the most diehard fanbases in any sport.

With that in mind, let’s dive in and take a look at who their top five offensive players are and how they rank all-time. We did want to mention a few honorable mentions. Jim Taylor, Donald Driver, and Don Hutson all nearly made the cut for this list.

5. Sterling Sharpe

Many people forget to add Sterling Sharpe to their best of all-time lists. It’s a shame, due to just how good Sharpe was during his career. Unfortunately, a neck injury ended his career extremely prematurely.

Sharpe ended up playing seven seasons with the Packers. In that relatively short time-span, he racked up 595 receptions for 8,134 yards and 65 touchdowns. Those numbers show just a small piece of the dominance that Sharpe showed up each and every week with.

He was rewarded for his strong play with three All-Pro First Team honors and was named to the Pro Bowl four times throughout his career. Sharpe is truly one of the greatest players in the history of the Packers’ franchise and we can only imagine what kind of career he would have had without the injury.

4. Bart Starr

When thinking about Green Bay quarterbacks, there are three household names that are always brought up. Of course, Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre are the most recent superstars that everyone knows. Bart Starr is very well known still as well and ends up at No. 4 on this list.

Starr may not have had the kind of statistical dominance that both Rodgers and Favre have shown, but the game was very different when he played. Above all, every player and team wants to win. That is exactly what Starr did. leading Green Bay to five championships, including the first two NFL Super Bowl titles.

In 16 seasons with the Packers, Starr ended up completing 57.4 percent of his pass attempts for 24,718 yards, 152 touchdowns, and 138 interceptions. He also picked up another 15 touchdowns on the ground. His winning is what deserves this spot and he will always be remembered as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL.

3. Paul Hornung

Another old-school Packers superstar that doesn’t receive the recognition he deserves these days is running back Paul Hornung. Many even leave him off the list of all-time great running backs.

In 1961, Hornung’s production was rewarded with the MVP award. His numbers may not look amazing to today’s NFL fans, but he was an absolute force in his era. Hornung finished his nine-year career with the Packers compiling 3,711 yards and 50 touchdowns on 893 carries.

Like we said previously, his numbers may not look impressive, but the impact he had on the game in his day was second to none.

2. Brett Favre

Very few lists involving quarterbacks could ever be complete with the gun-slinger being mentioned. Brett Favre was one of the most entertaining quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL. His arm strength combined with his aggressive personality made for must-watch television.

A country boy hailing from Southern Mississippi, Favre was acquired by the Packers in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons. It didn’t take him long to cement himself as the long-term franchise quarterback. He would go on to play 20 NFL seasons, although the last two were with the NFC North division rival Minnesota Vikings after the Packers replaced him with Aaron Rodgers.

Despite the falling out with the Packers, he has patched things up with the franchise and will always be believed in Green Bay. Throughout his 16 season in Green Bay, Favre completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 61,655 yards, 442 touchdowns, and 286 interceptions. He also scored another 13 touchdowns on the ground.

1. Aaron Rodgers

Finally, there was never a question about who No. 1 on this list would end up being. Even though the Packers just moved on from Rodgers, he still is the best player to ever wear the green and gold. He led the team to one Super Bowl win in 2010, but dominated the NFL for 18 years in Green Bay, although the first three were spent on the bench behind Favre.

In his 18 years with the Packers, Rodgers racked up 59,055 passing yards, 475 passing touchdowns, and only an unbelievable 105 interceptions. He also had success on the ground with 3,466 rushing yards and 35 more touchdowns.

Rodgers is now with the New York Jets, but the fans in Green Bay will always love him. He will always be a Packer. The only regret is that the Packers only won one Super Bowl in the dominant time period that he led the team.
