There Will be Some Mistakes
Although Patrick Queen has all the physical tools to succeed, it may take some time for his mind to adjust to the NFL level of play. As the quarterback of the defense Queen will need to distinguish plays, look out for counters, and make sure his teammates are in the right position.
He is only a rookie, no rookie in the history of the NFL has come in and played perfectly. What will be important is that Patrick learns from these mistakes. If he is able to learn from his errors and make sure he does not repeat them, Patrick will have a very successful professional career.
Jonas Shaffer of The Baltimore Sun caught up with Queen during a press conference where he commented on his mindset going into training camp stating,
The vets already are ahead of everything, and you are playing catch-up, it’s tough, but at the same time, you have to come in to work. Being at LSU, we were prepared for that — battled-tested and just ready to get acclimated with whatever situation occurs. So that’s what my main focus is right now, just to get acclimated with everything. Try to get to know my teammates. Try to become that person that everybody wants me to be
Although Queen put up great numbers last year, it was the young LSU linebacker’s first season as a starter. He is only 20-years-old, he is still very raw. His superior athletic ability was able to make up for some of his mistakes in college. In the NFL those misreads will allow big plays for opposing offenses.
Queen’s eagerness to learn is very important. The Ravens hope is he grows to be the face of this defense for years to come.
