Aside from McLaurin, there’s only one other pass catcher on Washington who’s caught over 30 balls in a season, veteran tight end Richard Rodgers in 2015 with the Green Bay Packers. And let’s not pretend like Rodgers is any sort of formidable threat when he’s on the field.
Haskins will also be playing behind a subpar offensive line in 2020. When you look across the projected offensive line for the Redskins, guard Brandon Scherff is the only lineman who instills some confidence. We could see a revolving door at every other position along the line, especially after the team parted ways with Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams this offseason.
As it looks right now, the Redskins are setting Haskins up to fail this year. If Derrius Guice can step up and become a dependable back behind Haskins, then at least he’ll have a running game to fall back on. But with how the offensive line is looking right now, a strong rushing attack in Washington this year feels like a pipe dream.
Luckily for Haskins, the team still has about $35 million remaining in cap space this offseason, and there are a handful of weapons still available on the open market. Most notably, wideout Antonio Brown. It’s still up in the air whether Brown will even play in the league again, but he’s still an interesting option and would certainly help Haskins in his development as an NFL quarterback.
Haskins has the talent to be a solid quarterback in this league, he’ll just need his organization to lend a helping hand while he continues to develop.
