The Jacksonville Jaguars are discussing a deal with wide receiver Calvin Ridley, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Schefter reports that the New England Patriots have been making a push for Ridley, but that the free-agent star prefers to return to the Jaguars.

This comes after Jacksonville signed fellow wide out Gabe Davis to a three-year, $39 million deal on Monday. The Jags don’t have a ton of cap room, so it will be interesting to see how they fit Ridley into their financial equation if they do, in fact, re-sign him.

The Jaguars initially acquired Ridley in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons in November 2022, but due to a suspension for betting on games, Ridley was not eligible to play at that time. He was reinstated by the NFL in February 2023, opening him up to return last season.

Ridley played in every game this past year, hauling in 76 receptions for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns in what was a successful debut campaign in Jacksonville.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was selected by the Falcons with the 26th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.

He appeared in every contest during his rookie year and was impressive, catching 64 passes for 821 yards and 10 scores. The following season, he posted very similar numbers, snaring 63 balls for 866 yards while reaching the end zone seven times.

Then, in 2020, Ridley broke out, racking up 90 catches for 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns.

Ridley proceeded to step away from football after four games in 2022, citing personal reasons. Not long after he did that, he was suspended for gambling.

The Fort Lauderdale, Fl. native is the best wide receiver on the free-agent market and should command a hefty contract.

We’ll see if the Jaguars are willing to meet Calvin Ridley’s demands.
