The Miami Dolphins have made a significant change to their coaching staff, as they announced this afternoon their mutual decision to part ways with veteran defensive coordinator Vic Fangio after just one season.

Needless to say, this puts a great name on the market for quite a few teams around the NFL that need a new defensive coordinator.

Mike McDaniel made a statement about his decision.

“I want to thank Vic for his contributions in 2023. When we assessed the season, it became apparent that this was the best path forward for all parties involved. Now, we turn our focus to 2024 and beyond with urgency as we identify the best candidate to lead our defense moving forward.”

Vic Fangio, aged 65, joined Miami following his consultancy role with the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2022 season. Prior to that, he served as the head coach of the Denver Broncos from 2019 to 2021.

While Fangio’s tenure saw some improvements in the Dolphins’ defense compared to the previous year, the team faced challenges due to injuries, ultimately finishing the season with an 11-6 record and a first-round exit from the NFL Playoffs.

It has been reported that Vic Fangio is now a top target for the Philadelphia Eagles, who are actively seeking a new defensive coordinator.

In addition to his time in Miami, Fangio boasts an extensive resume with previous defensive coordinator roles with the Carolina Panthers (1995-1998), Indianapolis Colts (1999-2001), Houston Texans (2002-2005), San Francisco 49ers (2011-2014), and Chicago Bears (2015-2018).
