The matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings in Week 10 wasn’t one many people were lining up to see when the schedule was first released. But, it has received a little more intrigue now after Saints’ defensive end Cam Jordan recently took a shot at Vikings’ quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Jordan recently made an appearance at the pass-rushing camp that Von Miller of the Buffalo Bills hosts. During one of his talks, the Saints star used Cousins as an example for something that he was explaining, pin-pointing how quick decision-making can impact a play. In the process, he took a shot at Cousins, who is seemingly renowned for it in football circles.
“In this game, like everybody knows, a fast wrong decision could be a right decision,” Jordan said. “And a fast right decision, you’re a winner. And a slow right decision, get yo ass on the bench cause there’s somebody out here that’s gon’ be moving at a different speed. Slow right decisions, we love ’em. Call ’em Kirk Cousins.”
There is some validity to what Jordan is saying. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, he is below average when it comes to the average time to throw. He ranked 24th out of 40 quarterbacks last season, which could certainly use improvement.
Cousins isn’t the most fleet of foot quarterback in the NFL; he has 933 rushing yards in 142 career games over 11 seasons. Alas, he hasn’t needed his legs to get the best of the Saints over the last few years.
In six starts against New Orleans in his career, Cousins has thrown for 1,811 yards and 14 touchdowns compared to only two interceptions. In those six starts, Cousins’ team has gone 3-3, including a 1-0 record against the Saints in the postseason.
Based on those numbers, it seems Cousins gets rid of the ball in plenty of time against Jordan and the Saints pass rush. You can be sure that will be used as bulletin board material ahead of the teams matching up on the afternoon of November 12th.
