49ers, Broncos Pull Off Major Trade In Post-Week 5 Proposal

The San Francisco 49ers continue to roll on, as they sent a huge message to the NFL with their 42-10 dismantling of the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Coming in, the Cowboys had been considered a legitimate Super Bowl contender, but instead, they have a lot of things to clean up, while the Niners are looking like the best football team in the world.

San Francisco could very well end up winning the Super Bowl this winter, but it will not be easy. Rival teams could figure out a way to penetrate its savage defense, and it could involve attacking it downfield via the vertical passing game.

The 49ers’ front seven is rock solid, but there is a perception that their secondary, especially their cornerbacks — Charvarius Ward, Deommodore Lenior and Isaiah Oliver — is a bit underwhelming.

The Denver Broncos lost on Sunday to the struggling New York Jets, 31-21, and it is becoming clear that their problems run deeper than quarterback Russell Wilson, who is playing much better now than he did last year when he looked aged. Some feel the Broncos may be considering a fire sale, and that sale could include star corner Patrick Surtain II.

Could the Niners pry Surtain away from Denver with this package?

49ers receive: Patrick Surtain II

Broncos receive: 2024 third-round pick, 2025 third or fourth-round pick

Surtain, who was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, is just 23 years of age and earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro First Team nods last season with 10 passes defended and two interceptions. Through five contests this year, he has six passes defended and one interception.

If San Francisco were to pull off this trade, it would be able to do a better job of preventing big yardage plays, something that was a problem for it at times versus the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2. With games versus the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles coming up in the next eight weeks, now is the time for the 49ers to solidify their chances of winning their first world championship since the 1994 season.
