The San Francisco 49ers have started off the 2023 exactly how everyone thought they would. They have gone 2-0 with a dominant win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1 and a hard-fought win over the division rival Los Angeles Rams in Week 2. However, they are not doing looking to add even more talent to their roster.

Over the last couple of years, the 49ers’ front office has made almost every single right move. They have built the roster perfectly on both sides of the football.

Now, it appears that the 49ers are showing interest in signing free agent veteran defensive back Bradley Roby to beef up their secondary.

Roby would be a very intriguing pickup for the 49ers. He has a lot of experience and could be a piece that plays right away. Beefing up the secondary is always a wise decision for a team with Super Bowl hopes.

Last season with the New Orleans Saints, Roby played a role but didn’t have an amazing season. He ended up playing in 13 games, racking up 36 total tackles to go along with two fumble recoveries and five defended passes. Those numbers aren’t bad, but they don’t pop off the sheet.

Despite not being a star by any stretch, Roby is exactly the kind of depth piece the 49ers should sign. He is capable of coming in and playing if needed. Injuries always impact teams down the stretch of the season and Roby could be top-notch insurance if he’s needed.

Expect to see the 49ers continue exploring avenues to improve the roster and add needed depth. Roby may or may not end up signing, but he would make a lot of sense in San Francisco.
