No. 3: What is to be expected of Russell Wilson?
To be straightforward, Russell Wilson carries this franchise on his back. Seattle’s Week 2 offense was dominated by Wilson, statistically, and that did not stop at passing accumulations. He has been the one mainstay on this offense outside of wide receiver Doug Baldwin.
Wilson can be a magician in the pocket and an escape artist out of it, but he can’t get out of the handcuffs the Seahawks have locked him in.
Sadly, they seemed to have thrown the key away as well.
Furthermore, the play might not be there this year, but Seahawks fans should not panic. Wilson is still a top-10 player at his position, one that happens to be the most important position across all sports. Wilson will be that rock Seattle needs, even if the team is struggling.
No matter how this season pans out, Wilson will still be the most prolific passer this team has seen in an eternity. Perhaps he is the aura of hope this franchise needs.
Lower Your Expectations
Do not be surprised if Wilson’s stats are not up to his norm. In fact, they most likely will paint a picture of a regressing quarterback in the worst year of his career. Statistics don’t tell the entire story.
The environment around him has been toxic to both the performances of the team and himself. Without an offensive line, Wilson will not perform to the standards we are used to. It simply will not happen. Once his surrounding cast is back to anything near league-average, the near-elite play will continue.
Just relax and enjoy your franchise quarterback while you still have one, Seattle.
