A couple of years ago, the Arizona Cardinals looked like one of the top up and coming teams in the NFL. Fast forward to 2023, and the Cardinals are now going nowhere fast. That has led to trade rumors surrounding players like Budda Baker. Could they consider trading him to the division rival Seattle Seahawks?
Arizona is just 1-3 through its first four games of a season in which quarterback Kyler Murray is sidelined as he recovers from a torn ACL. Even when Murray does get healthy, there are questions as to whether or not the Cardinals will simply move on from him and go into 2024 with a signal-caller.
For those reasons, Arizona may very well sell off some pieces ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, and the Cards have some intriguing players that could be on the move.
One such player is safety Budda Baker.
Baker is currently on the injured reserve list with a hamstring injury, but he is expected to return later this season. When he is on the field, he is one of the best defensive backs in football, so you can bet that there would be a line of teams interested if the Cardinals place him on the trade block.
Could the Seahawks attempt to swing a deal for the five-time Pro Bowler?
The Seahawks are certainly need of some help at safety, and Baker would instantly remedy those issues. Seattle could send a 2024 first-round draft pick and a fifth-rounder to Arizona in exchange for the veteran, providing the Cardinals with a nice haul for the 27-year-old.
Baker has another year remaining on his contract after this season, so it’s also not like he would just be a rental for a few games for the Seahawks. He would be there in 2024, as well.
Seattle is 3-1 and appears to be one of the better teams in the NFC thus far this season, and Baker would further elevate the squad and potentially make it a legitimate threat for a deep playoff run.
