It turns out Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is just like every football fan in the world. When there is some drama playing out between teams, he wants to sit back and watch it unfold like everyone else.
During a recent conversation with NFL analyst Peter King, one of the topics of discussion that Mike Tomlin had with him was the brewing disdain between the Denver Broncos and New York Jets. Broncos head coach Sean Payton had some harsh words for the Jets and their offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett.
Payton is taking over the Broncos’ job after Hackett had it for one season and flamed out. Payton believes the work that Hackett and his staff did was one of the worst coaching jobs in NFL history. He took some more shots at the Jets for “winning the offseason” and questioning how much that will translate on the field.
Payton will get a firsthand look at how things play out in Week 5 when the Broncos and Jets face off against each other. King revealed during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show that the Week 5 matchup is one that Mike Tomlin cannot wait to see either.
“All I know is that I hope that game between the Broncos-Jets is on national TV, in a time where everybody can watch it because I want to watch that football game,” King quoted Mike Tomlin as saying.
Mike Tomlin certainly isn’t alone in wanting to see how things play out. Plenty of players and coaches on the Jets, including Aaron Rodgers, have voiced their opinion on the matter, taking shots at Payton in the process. Wide receiver Randall Cobb referred to Payton as “Bountygate coach” throughout a radio spot.
As things are currently scheduled, Mike Tomlin could miss the start of the Week 5 game between the Broncos and Jets. His Steelers are set to host the Baltimore Ravens at 1 p.m. ET. New York will be traveling to Denver for a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff later that afternoon.
