The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to a two-year deal with wide receiver Mike Evans, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL media.

The contract is worth $52 million and contains $35 million in guaranteed money.

This prevents Evans from hitting the open market, as he was initially slated to hit free agency in the middle of this month.

Evans’ decision to remain with the Buccaneers does not come as much of a surprise.

After all, the 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Texas A&M, was originally selected by Tampa Bay with the seventh overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft and has played for the franchise ever since.

It didn’t take long for Evans to establish himself as one of the league’s best wide outs, as he caught 68 passes for 1,051 yards and 12 touchdowns during his rookie campaign.

He has logged over 1,000 yards receiving in each of the first 10 years of his NFL career, setting a league record. His best season during that run came in 2018, when he hauled in 86 receptions for 1,524 yards and eight scores.

This past year, Evans snared 79 balls for 1,255 yards and a league-leading 13 touchdowns, earning his fifth Pro Bowl selection. He has also notched Second-Team All-Pro honors twice, including 2023.

The Buccaneers went 9-8 and captured the NFC South division title this past season and were one of the most pleasant surprises in football. They then went on to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs before ultimately falling to the Detroit Lions in the Divisional Round.

With Mike Evans back in tow for 2024, Tampa Bay now has to ensure it retains quarterback Baker Mayfield. If the Bucs are able to do that, we may see them in the playoffs again next winter.
