The Arizona Cardinals could certainly use some wide receiver help for quarterback Kyler Murray, and the Los Angeles Chargers may have the answer for them in Keenan Allen.
Why would the Chargers trade Allen?
Well, Los Angeles is in a very precarious position when it comes to its salary cap situation. Spotrac projects the Chargers to be $44 million over the cap heading into the offseason, meaning they will obviously have to unload some money if they want to be able to make any serious roster moves.
Allen has one year remaining on his deal and is slated to earn $18.1 million in base salary next season, so he is absolutely a candidate to be dealt.
Plus, Allen is 31 years old, and while he is still very productive, Los Angeles may have to consider going with a soft rebuild. If LA ends up doing that, Allen may be one of the first players to go.
The Cardinals could trade a 2024 third-round draft pick as well as fellow wide out Rondale Moore to the Chargers in exchange for Allen. This would provide Arizona with a legitimate high-end receiver for Murray—something the club desperately needs—while also supplying Los Angeles with a solid draft choice and a young pass-catcher in Moore who can grow with Justin Herbert.
It seems clear that the Cardinals seem intent on moving forward with Murray under center, so they are going to need to start giving him some legitimate weapons.
Marquise Brown may very well end up walking via free agency, which would leave Arizona with next to nothing in its receiving corps. Yes, the Cards will have ample cap room this offseason, but I’m not sure players will be flocking to play for the Cardinals.
That’s why swinging a trade for someone like Allen may be the best course of action for an Arizona offense that is in dire need of a boost.
