The San Francisco 49ers are headed to the Super Bowl, but with the offseason approaching, could they ultimately revisit Patrick Surtain II trade talks with the Denver Broncos?

The 49ers tried to strike a deal with the Broncos for Surtain back at the trade deadline in October, but they were ultimately rebuffed.

Could Denver change its mind on Surtain this offseason?

Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department proposes that San Francisco trades linebacker Dre Greenlaw and a 2024 first-round draft pick to Denver for Surtain.

Surtain is entering the final year of his rookie deal, but the Broncos can keep him under team control through 2025 if (and when) they exercise his fifth-year option.

The question is, will Denver pay the star cornerback what he wants?

Cornerbacks are at a premium in today’s game, so Surtain will certainly end up landing a massive contract. The problem for the Broncos is that they are well over the salary cap, and although they plan on cutting Russell Wilson, it still won’t solve their money issues.

As a result, Surtain could be a potential trade candidate this offseason, and if Denver opts to place him on the block, you can bet the Niners will come calling yet again.

Surtain earned his second straight Pro Bowl selection this season after registering 69 tackles, an interception and 12 passes defended.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was selected by the Broncos with the ninth overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed a strong rookie campaign and then proceeded to make the Pro Bowl and notch First-Team All-Pro honors in 2022, racking up 60 tackles, a couple of picks, a forced fumble and 10 passes defended.

Because Patrick Surtain II is young, he definitely fits Denver’s timeline if the team wants to rebuild, but his price tag could end up being the sticking point.
