There has been some chatter this offseason in the NFL about the Tennessee Titans possibly making a change at the quarterback position. Ryan Tannehill was a pleasant surprise when he first arrived in town, taking over the starting job from Marcus Mariota and leading the team into the postseason three consecutive seasons.
The Titans reached the top of the standings in 2021, earning the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the postseason but came up short against the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite the excellent overall record, some of the issues Tannehill had with the Miami Dolphins popped up again in 2021.
He turned the ball over a lot, throwing 14 interceptions in the regular season and three more in the playoff game against the Bengals. In his first 28 regular-season games with the Titans, he had only 13 interceptions with two more in three playoff games.
That has certainly raised some eyebrows about whether or not the Titans should make a change. It will take some work to move on from Tannehill, but if motivated enough, Tennessee could pull it off.
What would motivate the Titans enough to want to do that? Getting in the race for one of the star quarterbacks that could be available would likely accomplish that. Could Tennessee be in the market for Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks should he look to move on? ClutchPoints certainly believes so.
Wilson to the Titans was one of four blockbuster trades they came up with that would shake up the NFL in 2022. While Wilson had his struggles this season, a lot of that can likely be attributed to the finger injury that he suffered. In 2020, he led the Seahawks to 12 wins while throwing for 40 touchdowns.
Inserting Wilson into the lineup for Tannehill would take the Titans’ offense to the next level. He is surrounded by elite weapons with Derrick Henry at running back and A.J. Brown leading the wide receiver group. Julio Jones showed in the postseason that when healthy, he can still deliver some nice performances as well.
It would be costly for the Titans to acquire Wilson, but when you are seemingly as close to winning a Super Bowl as they are, it could be worth the price.
