The New England Patriots made a major free agency move recently when they signed former Dallas Cowboys’ superstar running back Ezekiel Elliott. After waiting months for his new deal, Elliott is set to join a very talented Patriots’ offense. New England is hoping he can rejuvenate his career and regain some of the magic that made him one of the NFL’s most feared running backs just a few short years ago.

Now that Elliott is officially a member of the Patriots, he was able to join the team for their joint practice against the Green Bay Packers. Elliott has made his debut with the team and it has fired a lot of fans and the team up.

Pro Football Focus took to their Twitter account to share Elliott’s fiery first impression with the Patriots.

At this point in time, no one truly knows what to expect from Elliott with the Patriots. He wasn’t awful last season, but he seemed to have lost a lot of his explosiveness.

During the 2022 season with the Cowboys, Elliott ended up carrying the football 231 times for 876 yards and 12 touchdowns. Those numbers certainly don’t look shabby. However, Dallas chose to move forward with young and electrifying running back Tony Pollard and Elliott’s contract was too big to keep.

Heading into the 2023 season at 28 years of age, Ezekiel Elliott will be looking to prove a point. He has a major chip on his shoulder and is hoping to make a strong statement that he is still a more than capable starting running back.

Mac Jones and the Patriots will need Elliott to take as much pressure off of the passing game as he can. If he can find his big-play ability again, Elliott will take the New England offense to the next level. On the other hand, if he can’t, there is no real risk for the Patriots in the contract they signed him to.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what kind of season Elliott produces for the Patriots. His debut looks fiery, but that needs to stick around long-term as the season progresses.
