What Would It Take For Seahawks To Trade For Chase Young?

Could the Seattle Seahawks potentially make a trade for Washington Commanders edge rusher Chase Young before the Oct. 31 NFL deadline?

The Commanders are reportedly shopping Young, who is set to be a free agent this offseason courtesy of Washington declining his fifth-year option.

Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated suggests that the Seahawks should send a 2024 third-round draft pick and a 2025 sixth-rounder to the Commanders in exchange for Young.

Seattle’s pass rush has been solid this season, as it has racked up 23 sacks as a team. However, it should be noted that 11 of those sacks came against the depleted New York Giants back in Week 4, so one can argue that that number is a bit skewed.

Regardless, it certainly wouldn’t hurt the Seahawks to bring in a player of Young’s caliber to help them in the stretch run.

While Seattle is 4-2 and is firmly in the NFC playoff picture, it certainly does not look like a Super Bowl contender or a team that can make any sort of deep postseason run. For that reason, the Seahawks may try to add a piece or two before the end of the month.

Young has seen a resurgence this season, as he has already logged five sacks in six games after totaling just 1.5 sacks in 2021 and 2022.

The former No. 2 overall pick enjoyed a great rookie campaign back in 2020, registering 44 tackles and 7.5 sacks en route to a Pro Bowl appearance. However, Young tore his ACL nine games into his second season, and it has been an uphill battle for him ever since.

One thing that should be noted is that Seattle is not projected to have much cap room this offseason, so its chances of actually re-signing Chase Young in the event of a trade may be slim.
