1. Daniel Jones Does Not Progress
The Eli Manning era is officially over. Manning is retired and will not be on the roster in 2020. There was no draft pick criticized more than Daniel Jones in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Giants selected the Duke product sixth-overall in hopes they found their new quarterback.
Jones started 12 games as a rookie. He went 3-9 on a below average team with a poor head coach. Jones threw for 3,027 yards with 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His biggest problem? Fumbles. Jones fumbled 18 times last season and lost 11 of them. This is a major issue but it can be fixed.
The jury is still out. Some are all in on Jones while some believe he is destined to be a middle of the pack starter who never takes a big step in the league. Either way, it is unfair. It is crazy to get too high or too low after 12 starts.
At the end of the season, 12 starts will turn into 28 starts, if he stays healthy. Once this happens, we will be able to form a more educated opinion of the Giants’ young quarterback. This is the most important position on the field and that is why Jones regressing would be worst-case scenario No. 1 for New York.
