Mark Barron, LB Pittsburgh Steelers
The Bears head into this offseason with two of their inside linebackers hitting free agency in Danny Trevathan and Nick Kwiatkoski. Being in the bottom 10 of cap space makes it hard to think they’ll retain both of them, if either.
On the flip side, Mark Barron finds himself having a productive year as a run defender, but potentially the odd man out as the Steelers are also scraping for cap space, and still have to make a decision on what they want to do with fellow linebacker Bud Dupree.
With the Steelers needing to get under salary cap, unloading Barron would gain them a little over $5 million in the right direction. That could be enough incentive to flip him for one of Chicago’s sixth-round picks, giving Pittsburgh some breathing room and helping Chicago fill a need with proven production as opposed to having to hope you find a diamond in the rough on day three of the NFL Draft.
