3 DSTs to stream in Week 1

Detroit Lions (vs NY Jets)

Oh how I wish I could put the Baltimore Ravens (who get to face Nathan Peterman and the Buffalo Bills) on this list, but alas, they are over 96% owned in ESPN leagues.

Instead, let’s go with a defense facing an almost-equally as inexperienced quarterback: Sam Darnold of the New York Jets.

Rarely do you have an instance where a rookie QB, no matter how successful of a career he goes on to have, lights the world on fire immediately. The RG3 flashes in the pan are rare. Instead, you have instances where a rookie struggles out of the gate when the lights come on in the games that count. John Elway was benched during his first NFL game. Terry Bradshaw too. Troy Aikman threw for less than 200 yards with 3 interceptions in his first game. You get the picture.

We’ve seen Sam Darnold struggle at times under pressure (his championship matchup with USC against Ohio State comes to mind), so the idea of streaming the Lions – only 25% owned in ESPN leagues – is based off Darnold experiencing similar bumps on the road.

And no disrespect to Isaiah Crowell, Robby Anderson, and Quincy Enunwa, but it’s not like Darnold has the best supporting staff around him. Compare that list to the likes of Jarvis Landry, Josh Gordon, Carlos Hyde, Bradley Chubb, and David Njoku, and you can see Darnold has his work cut out for him.

Finally, a defense I’m shocked isn’t more widely owned…
