Will Exceed 400 Total Touches Again
The impressive nature of Christian McCaffrey’s production from the 2019 season has a lot to do with the fact that he remained so consistent despite operating at such a high volume.
The last player to receive more than 400 touches in multiple seasons was former San Diego Chargers star LaDanian Tomlinson. In fact, there have only been nine players in NFL history to achieve 400 touches in multiple seasons during their careers.
By operating at such a high volume, McCaffrey’s output of 2,392 total yards from scrimmage was barely enough to surpass Tiki Barber for the third most within in a single-season. He trailed only Chris Johnson (2,509) and Marshall Faulk (2,429) in NFL history.
It doesn’t mean that McCaffrey won’t be susceptible to eventually wearing down or receiving a dialed back volume of touches. However, it’s just that it won’t end up happening during the 2020 season at 24-years-old.
